Meet Luis

Luis is professional chef and yoga instructor who was born and raised in Argentina. He studied gastronomy at one of the most prestigious Latin American schools, Gato Dumas. Later, he traveled the world while working in several restaurants and hotels, learning world cuisine. Traveling and learning to cook different cuisines has always been one of Luis’s biggest passions. He even met his wife while visiting Germany on one of his travels, and now Luis and his wife have settled here for the past three years! He is excited to meet people from around the world to share his cooking skills and knowledge through this cultural exchange.

“I love traveling, experiencing different cultures, getting to know to people, learning from them, as well as sharing with them my experiences.”

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-8 guests) Luis lives in an apartment in Nippes with his wife. It is a beautiful, clean, green neighborhood, very close to the Rhine. As Luis has worked and lived in so many countries, he is specialized in cooking cuisines from different parts of the world - Latin-American, Spanish, Italian, Arabic and Mediterranean. Now that he has been living in Cologne for the past three years, he would like to share with you German food and produce.

Join Luis at his dining table to share a few dishes such as seasonal fresh salad (mix of green leaves from the region which can be accompanied with figs, berries, asparagus or plums depending on the season, feta cheese and a special vinaigrette with seeds), kartoffel soup mit German vollkorn bread (a typical German soup made with a creamy base of potatoes and seasonal vegetables, finished with wiener sausages and bread) or kartoffelkuchen (a lasagna-style preparation in which the main ingredients are a bolognese sauce, mashed potatoes with cumin, gratin with crispy cheese!) or flammkuchen (German pizza, topped with cream, thinly sliced caramelized onions and smoked bacon, or blue cheese, celery, walnuts, and honey) and empanada wienwurst curry (a type of baked or fried turnover consisting of pastry and a filling of typical smoked German sausage, mozzarella, paprika, onion and Luis’s special curry sauce). You will end your meal with a dessert such as apple strudel with vanilla ice cream or griessbrie mit berry sauce coulis (a creamy semolina pudding, accompanied with compote of fruit and fresh fruits).

Cooking experience: (1-5 guests) Join Luis in his home kitchen for your 2 hour hands-on cooking class in this Cologne German cooking class. You will learn to make two dishes from scratch, a main dish and a dessert. Luis will share with you his abundant cooking knowledge, tips and tricks, and by the end of your cooking class you will feel confident to cook two German dishes on your own!

Market visit: (1-8 guests) Visit Wilhelmsplatz, a local food market in the neighborhood of Nippes. It is a lively market with food stands selling fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese and other high quality, seasonal ingredients. Walk around this large market area with Luis to view the local produce available and you may even buy ingredients for your cooking class (if booked). Later walk back for 10 minutes to Luis's apartment to cook and/or eat together. If you have selected the market only experience, the experience ends at the market, only if you've selected the one with a cooking and/or meal experience, will go back to Luis's apartment.

Notes: Luis can offer lactose free, gluten free, vegetarian and vegan meals on request.
