Meet Katy & Acho

Georgian gastronomy bloggers and cookbook authors Katy and Acho live in a traditional Tbilisi house that was constructed in the 18th-century. By day, she is an economist and he is a lawyer, but at night and on weekends they relax by spending time in the kitchen, exploring the diverse flavors and techniques of traditional Georgian cooking. They have taught Georgian cooking to foreign friends, regularly post cooking videos on their YouTube channel called "Katy & Acho Cooking", and are now working on a project with the Ministry of Culture to promote Georgian gastronomy. They travel the country talking to home-cooks and gathering old recipes, which will all be published in a forthcoming cookbook, "Georgian Heritage of Taste".

Katy & Acho are outgoing and friendly, and are enthusiastic culinary and cultural ambassadors. They say, “We have an absolutely outstanding and amazing cuisine in the world! Our culinary culture is full of different tastes and we have one of the oldest, different, interesting and massively enjoyable cuisines on the planet! We are always happy to host people from all around the world, in our little, sweet home!”

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-4 guests) Georgian cuisine reflects the country’s geographical position, with tastes and influences from its neighbors and distinct regions within the country. Katy and Acho will introduce you to a variety of Georgian dishes, robustly flavored with herbs like tarragon, coriander, and other Georgian herbs, sour plums, variety of meat meals, and fresh breads cooked in a clay oven.

Your menu might include khachapuri (dough stuffed with Georgian cheese), khinkali (meat dumplings with Georgian spices), chakapuli (a popular Georgian stew of lamb or veal flavored with onions, tarragon, tkemali (local sour plum sauce) and white wine), shkmeruli (chicken braised in cream and garlic), roasted potatoes, and Georgian tomato salad. For dessert they might serve a very traditional sweet called churchkhela made from walnuts or hazelnuts, covered in candied grape juice, served with with homemade lemonade, tea or coffee.

Cooking experience: (1-4 guests) Learn to make an authentic Georgian meal with your own two hands, alongside Katy and Acho in their kitchen. You can expect to cook together for about 1-2 hours, before sitting down to enjoy the meal you helped prepare at their dining table.

Market visit: (1-4 guests) Explore a local Tbilisi market with Katy and Acho and learn about local Georgian produce and ingredients. As you browse the stalls they will teach you about regional ingredients, cheeses, wines, spices, and herbs.

Notes: Pick-up and drop-off from the Marjanishvili Square Metro station is included in the cost of this experience. Katy & Acho can offer vegan and vegetarian dishes so be sure to let them know if you have any special dietary restrictions.

This was an amazing night. Katy and Acho are amazing people who are dedicated to Georgian food of high quality. They provided very large dining experience with great food. But more important than just the food was the dedication and love they demonstrated for good quality food. They are passionate about food that portrays the best of the area. The dinner they that provided and we cooked together involved high quality, organic ingredients. I plan on trying several of the dishes when I return home. They are truly a treasure and I highly recommend this class.

Katy & Acho were very accommodating & professional. I had the best time & have made some great friends now! At first I was a little unsure about visiting a strangers home in a new city, however Katy & Acho were the perfect hosts. They were so welcoming & happy to provide transport as well. They even invited my family to come and eat what we cooked. Not only did I learn how to cook Georgian food, but I also learnt so much of their culture and way of life. I would happily recommend to all my friends now!

If you are looking for a warm welcome, awesome food, and an amazing evening in a comfortable environment, Katy & Acho have got you covered! I had an amazing evening, with lots of laughs, and the food was delicious! I never felt uncomfortable once, Katy & Acho really take care of their guests. Their passion for food and cooking is truly inspiring, so inspiring in fact, that I helped them with making the khinkali! It was a great experience, and will come back whenever I get the chance!

This information will be emailed to you to the email address you used to sign up, and will also be visible on your Traveling Spoon profile.

All prices are noted per person prices unless otherwise specified. Transportation is typically charged on a per car basis, but otherwise all prices are per person. Children aged 5-11 are 50% off, and infants aged 0-4 are free.
