Meet Zoe

Food is Zoe’s passion! She travels extensively and loves to bring home interesting or unique ingredients from markets around the world. Zoe is equally excited to experiment with infusing food that she’s most familiar with new flavors, whether it’s duck carnitas biryani or Szechuan peppercorn fried chicken! The best part of cooking is being able to share those dishes with her nearest and dearest during extended "family dinners” every month. Zoe is of Indian heritage but considers NYC her home. She has an affinity for classic cooking such as Sunday roast, seared duck breast, or a simple cassoulet. However, her go-to dishes are made from Indian family recipes verbally passed down through the generations that are nearly impossible to find in restaurants outside of rural South Indian villages. Zoe became a host to offer travelers the experiences she enjoys best when traveling - getting to know locals and seeing what constitutes a normal evening for them. She is excited to invite guests with the same interests into her home for a home-cooked meal and cultural experience.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (1-4 guests) Join your host Zoe at her open kitchen in her small Upper East Side studio apartment in Manhattan. Over a glass of wine, learn to cook Indian-inspired comfort food. Based on your preference, Zoe can offer either a hands-on cooking class or a cooking demonstration. Zoe’s dishes are a creative take on family recipes. Based on your flavor profile, Zoe will customize a comfort food menu for you. You will learn to cook three dishes curing your cooking lesson that lasts about two hours. After cooking, enjoy the meal you helped prepare with Zoe on her couch. Your menu includes an appetizer, main, side and dessert. Your menu might include dishes such as fresh ricotta with tandoor olive oil, spiced duck and frites, pan-seared duck breast seasoned with coriander, cumin and black pepper served with duck fat fried potatoes, charred cabbage, saffron risotto and a dessert of store-bought ice cream. On occasion, Zoe’s friends may join you for your meal. Get local tips about New York City from your host Zoe, a young and fun Manhattan resident. Beer or wine is included in the cost of your experience. You are also welcome to bring your own bottle of wine.

Notes: Since Zoe works during the week, she offers morning and evening experiences on weekends but only evening experiences during weekdays.

PERSONALLY VETTED REVIEW
A Traveling Spoon ambassador visited this host. Here is their personal review.

I really enjoyed spending a couple of hours watching Zoe do what she loves the most. It’s so evident how passionate she is about cooking, and she exudes warmth even though we were strangers. Her apartment is quirky and charming in the best possible way and tells a story about her many travel experiences. Each artifact in her home has a fascinating story behind it that almost always ties back to her love for food and entertaining. The only downside of her place, which is characteristic of most NYC apartments, is less space. There is no formal dining area, but there is seating on a large and comfortable couch, and two barstools overlooking her kitchen, and adding to an interactive experience for anyone who is lucky enough to try her food. She uses farm fresh ingredients, and a lot of thought is put into every little detail, even down to the kind of salt she uses to bring out the best possible flavor (she has at least 20 different types in her cupboard!). Overall, I think Zoe makes for a fantastic host, making her guests feel right at home and incredibly welcome.
