Learn to make Sourdough Bread in a private online class!
Approximately 1.5 hours
Learn to make sourdough from scratch (including your own sourdough starter) and a delicious yogurt flatbread
Split class (1 hour + 1/2 hour 7-8 days later): you will make sourdough starter and the yogurt flatbread in the first class and learn to bake your sourdough bread during the second class
Second class (to bake the sourdough) will be co-ordinated directly between you and your instructor Ally
Private, one-on-one online instruction with an Australian native who grew up on a wheat farm
Scheduled mutually at your convenience (host lives in Australia (GMT+10))

If you prefer to learn to make focaccia instead of yogurt flatbread please state your preference when making your booking
You will need: 2 large jars like mason jars (750ml – 1l in size), cling film (saran or glad wrap) to cover the jar, long-handled spoon or spatula, a kitchen scale, pizza stone or tray, additional baking tray for water that goes in the oven
WHAT WILL YOU COOK TOGETHER:
Sourdough bread from scratch
1 kg organic rye flour (if you cannot source rye flour, purchase the best quality bakers flour you can)
Tap water (if your water isn’t high quality, purchase bottled water)
150 g starter
2 tsp salt
450 g bakers flour
Additional bakers flour or semolina flour for dusting
Sesame seeds or dried herbs of your choice (optional)
About your host
A passionate, self-taught home cook who grew up on a wheat and sheep farm, Ally has been cooking for almost 40 years now and bakes a loaf of her own sourdough bread daily. She wants to demystify the process for others! Ally is eager to teach guests how to make a sourdough starter from scratch and to bake two breads during this split bread baking class over two days. During this class, Ally will show you to make the starter, feed the starter, make the bread and how to bake it. She enjoys cooking and puts in so much time, love and effort that each meal turns into a food event! Her passion has opened many opportunities and has done a variety of things in the food industry, including working at a café to develop their menu and catering for a number of events. In addition to her first love of cooking, Ally also enjoys gardening, photography and pottery. Ally is always trying out new things in her kitchen, experimenting with flavors and trying different food combinations. She loves cooking healthy, fresh meals from scratch and uses produce from her own vegetable, fruit and herb garden.
