I had such an amazing experience cooking with Hilena — it was truly the highlight of my trip to Ethiopia. My husband and I felt incredibly welcomed into her home from the moment we arrived, and together we prepared a beautiful and delicious feast. My husband even felt comfortable making injera, and he’s usually not the one spending time in the kitchen! That alone speaks to how warm, patient, and encouraging Hilena is as a host and teacher. We are so grateful that she invited us into her home and shared this experience with us and her family. She was incredibly kind and thoughtful, even making sure we arrived to and from our destination safely. We will never forget this experience, the amazing food, and the wonderful person Hilena is. I joined this tour because I’m really into home cooking. Since I went by myself, it was a bit pricey for me, but honestly, it was totally worth it. Daniel and his family were super welcoming and friendly, and they took the time to answer all my questions. I had a great time! There was a bit of a mix-up when I booked, and I had some trouble reaching out through the app. So I’d recommend sending a message or giving a quick call after booking, just to make sure everything’s clear. Because it was getting late (?), we were able to enjoy an unexpected night drive around Addis Ababa during the pick-up and drop-off. Since I was unfamiliar with the area, I was glad to be able to ask for a pick-up and drop-off service.
