Meet Pink

Pink learned to cook Thai food while she was abroad studying in the UK. The cooking in Birmingham “Thai” restaurants could not compare to her mother’s skillful touch, and so after growing tired of a diet of faux Thai and instant noodles, Pink became determined to learn by herself - and with the help of her soon-to-be husband, "A", on his occasional visits from Belgium. The toughest part of learning to cook abroad, she says, was not only finding those elusive Thai herbs and spices so crucial to the delicate balance of flavors, but also cooking on a (gasp!) electric oven that doesn’t allow for the subtle changes in temperature which are also important for Thai cooking. Pink's determination paid off - she is now an expert in the kitchen!

A third-generation Thai of Chinese heritage, Pink loves to cook, travel, and practice her English with foreigners. This makes her the perfect Traveling Spoon Host. Come see for yourself!

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-4 guests) Share a home cooked authentic Thai meal with Pink at her dining table. Some of Pink’s specialties include grilled mushrooms tossed with basil, chili, shallots, and then steamed in banana leaves, green curry chicken and stir-fried shrimp with garlic, white pepper seeds, and coriander root.

Cooking experience: (2-4 guests) Soon after you arrive at Pink’s beautiful garden home in Samut Sakhorn province, you’ll be in her garden picking Thai herbs like chili, basil, kaffir lime, lemon grass, and coriander – everything you’ll need for today’s lunch.

She'll teach you to cook sweet green curry from scratch, including pressing the coconut milk from fresh coconuts. Your hands-on cooking lesson will last about 2-3 hours.

A genuine culinary and cultural experience. The cooking class and lunch with Pink and her mother was exceptional. Pink is full of knowledge on Thai cuisine and has a irresistible enthusiasm that really brings the experience to life. More than that, we have travelled in south east Asia for over 20 years and Pink’s green curry is the best we have ever eaten! Also worth mentioning the produce from her garden is all organic and exquisite. We were lucky enough to be there during mango season and Pink even gave us some to take home with us...thanks again for the wonderful experience!!

Our experience today went beyond my expectations, first she met us at the BTS station and took us to her beautiful house.(she droves us there in her car, about 30 minutes outside of Bangkok). I mentioned that I like sticky rice and mango, (a Thai desert) and she stopped along the way and bought the mangos and sticky rice from a vendor. (this was just because of the fact that I mentioned it, and show the kind of person she is to treat us to a great time). After we got to her beautiful home, we started making green curry from scratch, made the soup, and shrimp with garlic. All of this we made from scratch with fresh herbs from her garden. We all sit down and ate lunch, which looked like any 4 star or 5 start restaurant. We then ate the sticky rice and mango desert. She then made her version of a refreshing drink, that she made with herbs and soda water, delicious! Pink and her mother are wonderful caring people, with warm personalities. The caring and warmth of service, would beat any other cook or dinning experience in Bangkok. The experience of cooking hands on with clear directions, handout sheets so we could take home the ingredients list and cooking instructions alone was beyond most expectations. We took a final tour of her garden outside and then she drove us back to our BTS station to go home. This was a super day, this was an experience that I will always remember as one of the best days I've had in Thailand. I would highly recommend to anyone to book a date with Pink, you will not regret it.Thank you Pink and your mother for having us and showing us why they call Thailand the land of smiles.
