Meet Aurore

Aurore has the most fascinating, interesting and diverse background. Her mother is half Vietnamese, half Indian; her father is half Italian half Ukrainian and her husband is French, making Aurore truly a world citizen! Aurore is a native of Paris, a self-taught cook, who inherited her love for cooking at an early age. She was truly lucky to learn cooking from her parents who came from such a diverse backgrounds and fondly remembers helping around in the kitchen doing small chores like cutting carrots for dinner. She learned from her parents to cook Vietnamese, Indian, Italian, Ukrainian and French food and now wishes to share this knowledge with her children as well! Aurore’s mother cooked almost every single meal, and Aurore does the same for her family as well. Aurore loves to cook from scratch and uses only the best ingredients; she also knows the origin story of every ingredient she uses, as she believes they are at the heart of what she does. “I'm very proud when my 5 year old son tells me that his hachis parmentier (shepherd's pie) at school wasn't good because there wasn't any garlic, or nutmeg!“

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (2-7 guests) Aurore will welcome you into her charming, sun-filled, Parisian apartment in the 7th arrondissement, located only a short walk from the Eiffel Tower. Join Aurore on her balcony and while you sip on your welcome drink, Aurore will share stories from her life growing up in Paris. You will then enter her kitchen to learn to cook a modern fusion French meal. Aurore is born and raised in Paris but loves adding little twists from her diverse background (Indian, Italian, Vietnamese and Ukrainian) on classic French dishes. Your hands-on cooking class will last about 1-2 hours, and you’ll help Aurore prepare 2-3 dishes from scratch. She is happy to share some of her secret cooking tips and techniques with you as well! As you add the final touches to your meal, you can enjoy bites of cheese from a local fromagerie and freshly baked bread. After cooking, join Aurore at her dining table to enjoy a modern fusion French meal you helped prepare, that may include an appetizer such as smoked salmon tartare and a main such as beef bourguignon, fish in a herbs crust with its sauce "beurre blanc", duck breast with an orange and honey sauce, or beef with its sauce "marchand de vin". Enjoy your meal over French wine. Your meal will conclude with a dessert such as chocolate fondant or apple rose tarts for dessert.

Market visit: (2-7 guests) Meet Aurore and then walk to her local market, Rue Cler, located only a stone’s throw away. While the market sets up, share an espresso with Aurore standing at the bar Parisian style at L’éclair, where espresso is served with a tiny piece of chocolate. Next you’ll sample some cheese at a fromagerie, make a pit stop at a boulangerie to pick up a freshly baked loaf of bread and then at a local boucherie to select a cut of meat or seafood for your cooking class. The last stop will be L’epicerie, a fine specialty spice shop, which Aurore frequents on a regular basis before you return home for your cooking class.

PERSONALLY VETTED REVIEW
A Traveling Spoon ambassador visited this host. Here is their personal review.

Aurore mentioned that sharing a meal with someone is “transformative” and a “game changer.” I couldn’t agree more, as I walked away from her home with a memory of Paris that will last a lifetime. From hand selecting our ingredients at the local market, to sitting in her apartment to enjoy the meal we prepared together, I could not have had a more delightful culinary experience. Learning to plate dishes like Aurore is an added bonus!
