Meet Tamari

Like most of us who believe their mom’s cooking is the best in the world, Tamari is no different! She gets her love, passion and inspiration for cooking from her mom, Marina, who is very skilled and has been preparing meals for the extended family for more than 25 years! Tamari enjoys traveling and from her passion decided to make it her career. She started her own wellness travel agency after completing her degree in International Management in Spain. As a travel enthusiast, Tamari loves to meet new people and she would love to host travelers in her home for an authentic, interactive experience that captures the essence of Georgian culture.

“In Georgia we say that every guest is the gift from God. Thus it is no surprise that every visitor feels like a real member in our house.”

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-4 guests) Tamari lives in a traditional apartment building that was constructed in the 19th century. At her dining table you can expect to share an authentic Georgian meal, rich in herbs, spices and nuts. Her family comes from the Samegrelo region (western Georgia) and is very proud of their Megrelian cuisine. In Megrelian cuisine herbs like tarragon, flat parsley, dill and coriander combine with walnuts and garlic for rich fillings and sauces. Tamari and her mother Marina will welcome you for a Supra, which is a traditional Georgian dinner party where the table is piled high with multiple traditional Georgian dishes that friends and family share together after a toast is raised - a unique way of eating only in Georgia! You might enjoy dishes like khachapuri (gooey cheese-stuffed bread) served with matsoni (sour yogurt), khinkali (twisted knobs of dough, stuffed with meat and spices and served boiled or steamed), herbed beef stew and Georgian tomato salad. For dessert you might try a very traditional sweet called churchkhela, typically made from walnuts or hazelnuts and covered in candied grape juice, served with tea or coffee.

Cooking experience: (1-4 guests) Join Tamari and her mother, Marina in their small kitchen for a one hour hands-on cooking class during which you will learn to make authentic Georgian dishes like chvishtari (cornbread with cheese) and pelamushi (a traditional sweet grape pudding dessert) from scratch.

Notes: Tamari can offer vegetarian meals on request.

An insider tip, you should bring a Georgian coin of 10 Tetri with you, so you can access the elevator. Enjoy the rustic ride up to the 5th floor! Or you can always meet Tamari at the entrance of the building, just give her a call when you reach their building.

What a wonderful hands on experience with a mother and daughter. They welcomes us into their home and shared their kitchen and recipes with us. We tried many different dishes, got to help prepare them all, and enjoyed a wonderful feast with homemade wine!

Specific instructions for transportation will be provided in your confirmation details when your booking is confirmed.

Many of our hosts accommodate solo travelers. You can see if a host accepts solo travelers by looking at the traveler range found next to the experience descriptions on the host profile (indicated by the numbers in parentheses next to "In-home meal", "Cooking experience" and "Market visit").

Most of our Traveling Spoon experiences are incredibly family friendly and can accommodate infants and children.
