Meet Fusina

Fusina is a warm, open and welcoming Dutch host who loves to learn about different cultures. Fusina used to be the organizer of the Dutch cookbook competition and has authored many cookbooks about Dutch cuisine. She is a delightful storyteller, who enjoys meeting new people. Join Fusina in her beautiful apartment in the heart of Amsterdam over a delightful Dutch dinner.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (1-6 guests) Meet your host Fusina at her artsy canal house apartment (1824) with classic architectural elements like traditional Dutch beams on the ceiling. Sip on Dutch wine as you immerse yourself into local Dutch culture and get to know your host Fusina as she tells you stories about herself, her family and the Netherlands. Next, join Fusina in her kitchen and watch as she prepares stamppot, a traditional Dutch dish of potatoes mashed with smoked sausage and one or more vegetables that may include endive, kale or carrot and onion. Over a glass of Dutch wine or beer, learn to cook and flip pannekoeken or pancakes, a very typical Dutch dish for dessert. You can create sweet pancakes with a variety of ingredients and toppings like fresh apples from the market. Your stamppot demonstration and hands-on pancake cooking class during which you will make and flip sweet Dutch pancakes from scratch will last about two and a half hours. Enjoy learning about the techniques involved in creating this basic but authentic Dutch dish as well as other traditions of Dutch cuisine. Join Fusina at her kitchen table to enjoy the authentic Dutch homemade meal you helped prepare composed of simple but heartwarming dishes. You will receive a tasting of a variety of Dutch small plates such as Dutch cheese with appelstroop (rich, apple sauce), herring, stamppot (mashed potatoes with vegetables and smoked sausage) and traditional Dutch pancakes served with coffee or tea and stroopwafels.

Notes: Please note two glasses of wine per person are included in the cost of your experience.

Languages spoken: English, Dutch

We had such a lovely evening and meal with Fusina in her beautiful home. She has such a passion for everything related to Dutch cuisine and locally grown ingredients. She taught us so much not only of the food but of the culture of the Netherlands. She is so inspiring in that she has turned her passion into a calling. I would highly recommend a visit with Fusina.

There are a lot of things to like about Traveling Spoon and we have had good experiences. This one was no different. There was a lot to like. i.e. our host Fusina was very nice and engaging, her home was in a great location overlooking the Skinny Bridge in Amsterdam, the food that was prepared was good and enjoyable. The only negative was the price. While we had no issue with having traditional dutch pancakes, some fancy mashed potatoes, and a piece of sausage along with some cheese etc for appetizers, it was basically very simple, tasty food at a gourmet price. If it was half the cost we paid, I'd be raving here telling everyone to book. However at basically a 5 star price I'd be cautious. Just be aware. It was a very pleasant evening.

Fusina was a friendly and welcoming host. We had good conversation over drinks in her lovely canal-facing living room before moving into the kitchen to prepare dinner. As an experienced cook, though, I was not impressed with the class. She had us mash potatoes that she had already boiled, and then stir in bacon, cheese, and endive. That's not much of a cooking class. We also made a pancake with apple slices... again, really simple. The food was tasty, but for the price we paid, I was expecting something grander. I would have been fine with this menu if it had been about 1/3 the price.

Visiting Fusina’s home for a Dutch meal is an amazing experience that can’t missed. The meal started with a few items that had been made in advance to highlight Dutch cuisine, including herring, bitterballen, and a goat cheese tart. We were instructed on how to make stamppot, ours with endive, and ate it with a smoked sausage. We also had the opportunity to flip Dutch pancakes that we made. The food was delicious and allowed us to try a variety of dishes that are popular in Dutch cuisine. Fusina was wonderful! She is a warm host and spending an evening in her home was the highlight of our visit to Europe.
