Meet Luca and Marielle

Marielle is a French Canadian, originally from Quebec, who has been living in Milan for over 20 years. With a background in the fashion industry, Marielle first came to the city for her fashion career. But it was love that kept her in Italy and it was her husband who made her appreciate the country's incredible food. “In North America, I was raised in the culture that we needed to eat to live. Here in Italy, it's part of the culture - people love to eat and share special moments.” She loves that Italians are both so knowledgeable about food (a supermarket would go out of business if it didn’t stock the highest quality foods, she says), but also see food as pleasure. “I really appreciated this about the culture when I moved here. My husband Luca is Italian. It is another way of eating completely – I really learned that through my husband.” Luca learned to cook from his father’s mother, whose mountain home he would go to visit each weekend while growing up. His recipes are all his grandmother’s recipes, handwritten from decades ago. Luca is infinitely curious about food, and he delights in using heritage ingredients and old cooking techniques wherever possible. His fresh handmade pastas use the highest quality traditional grains and flours, and his meals feature the best quality seasonal ingredients they can find.

Marketing and food industry consultants by day, Marielle and Luca are so passionate about food they decided to create their own home restaurant to serve travelers and guests the Italian food that they love so deeply. Food, Marielle says, is a way to share and know each other.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-14 guests) Join Marielle and her husband Luca (and their 17-year old daughter when she is home from studies!) in their villa home, located about 15 minutes from downtown Milan, and beautifully decorated in the art deco style with many modern art objects. Your experience will start in their living room with a welcome glass of wine and some snacks of fresh vegetables. Then head to their veranda in the garden where you will enjoy a first course of a selection of three homemade pastas. Luca loves using forgotten grains and ingredients so your pastas will feature the best of some of Italy’s heritage flours and grains. Once you’ve enjoyed your pasta course, enjoy a traditional Italian main of a fresh fish or meat dish served with a seasonal vegetable side such as artichoke or zucchini. Wine and water will also be served during your experience. End your meal with a sweet dessert such as balsamic vinegar ice cream, with fresh ice cream made in Marielle and Luca’s kitchen and drizzled with aged balsamic vinegar at the table. Your dessert will be served with a selection of coffee and tea.

Cooking experience: (1-8 guests) Start your experience with a welcome drink and small appetizer before heading to Marielle and Luca's kitchen to begin your cooking lesson. For your lesson, learn to make one-handmade pasta such as tagliatelle, linguine, macaroni or angel hair pasta, as well as an accompanying sauce such as a white ragout or fresh pesto. After your lesson head to the glass-walled veranda where you will enjoy your meal, which will feature the fresh pasta made by you as well as one or two other dishes that Luca may have prepared in advance. End your meal with a sweet dessert of homemade ice cream with balsamic vinegar and a selection of coffee or tea.

Luca is also skilled at making gluten-free pastas and has perfected the ratio of alternate grains for his pasta recipes, so please note during the booking if you would like a gluten-free pasta making class.

Notes: Please note that lunch experiences are typically only available on the weekends.
