Meet Romuald and Alexia

Romuald is a French professional chef who trained as an apprentice from the age of 15 at a two star-Michelin restaurant in Alsace, France. From there, he moved to New York City to work at Le Cirque followed by Bora Bora where he was made an executive chef at age 30. Later, after working in San Francisco, he moved to London where he now works as the Executive Chef for a top five-star hotel. He and his partner Alexia, who is Portuguese by heritage and grew up in Northern California, share a passion for food as well as finding and using the freshest of ingredients. Together they visit their local farmer's market each week, building relationships with each of the producers and getting the best, locally sourced fish, meat, dairy and organic vegetables that the city has to offer. Romuald is passionate about seasonal cooking and using the best locally produced ingredients to reflect Britain's rich culinary diversity in order to create traditional British dishes for his guests. When not in the kitchen, Romuald and Alexia love trying new restaurants in the city as well as share a love for live music and theatre. In-home meal: (2-4 guests) A French take on British cuisine using the best locally sourced ingredients straight from the heart of London Notting Hill's farmer's market

Cooking experience: (2-4 guests) Alexia and Romuald live in a beautiful rooftop flat on the edge of London's Notting Hill neighborhood. In a modern, open chef's kitchen overlooking Romuald and Alexia's sunny terrace, learn to make traditional British dishes with a classically trained French chef who procures his ingredients from the best local suppliers. You might enjoy classic dishes like fish pie or fresh steamed sea bass from the coast of Cornwall with seasonal vegetables, or confit tomatoes and roasted lamb saddle or 'bangers and mash' made with meat from a 150-year old British family butchery. Your meal will also be served with locally produced bread and butter plus a mix of fresh salad greens. End your meal with a traditional British dessert like Bakewell tart or Eton Mess, meringue mixed with fresh whipped cream and strawberries. Romuald's is the best we've tasted! If the weather is nice enjoy your meal in the sunshine on their rooftop terrace overlooking Notting Hill.

Market visit: (2-4 guests) Meet near the Notting Hill tube station and walk together to Alexia and Romuald's neighborhood farmer’s market, where Romuald knows all the vendors. Wander the market together and pick-up seasonal ingredients that'll be used to create a traditional British meal in Alexia and Romuald's beautiful rooftop flat, a 15-20 minute walk or short bus ride from the farmer's market. Back at their apartment create a meal that you will enjoy together on their rooftop terrace or in their open dining and kitchen area.

Notes: Please note that both the Cooking Lesson and Market Tour experiences are only available on Saturdays when their local farmer's market occurs.

From the start of the day with a visit to the brilliant, local Farmer’s Market, Romuald based his menu on what was fresh and in season, selecting the best of the local British produce. And then being able to take part in the cooking process as much or as little was a nice touch. We left with plenty of little hints ranging from knife skills, to cooking methods and how to properly prepare the ingredients. It’s a great opportunity to learn from one of London’s top chefs. The stuffed tomatoes were unbelievably tasty and of the highest quality as were the glorious peaches. Romuald and Alexia are charming hosts and their rooftop flat is sunny and has glorious views over Notting Hill. Eating our meal together with them was like having dinner with old friends.
