Meet Marie and Florent

Marie and Florent are a delightful couple living just outside of Paris's 18th arrondissement in Saint-Ouen (they live just next to Paris' amazing flea and antique market, one of the largest in the world, so be sure to stop there before or after your experience!). Marie went to cooking school after being encouraged by her husband Florent who raved that Marie was one of the best cooks he had met and was destined to work in food. They met in Senegal, where Marie is from, and after getting married in Dhaka moved back together to Paris in 2010. Florent is a freelance graphic designer who formerly worked for the French foreign affairs office and Marie, when she is not working for her restaurant, loves dancing. They both love going to the cinema and museums, so be sure to ask Florent for recommendations.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-4 guests) Join Marie and Florent in their cozy one bedroom apartment for a plated, three-course meal of gourmet French classics. Marie is an outstanding cook who will keep you well fed with traditional French dishes that will include a first course, main dish and a dessert. You might enjoy dishes like delicately roasted cod with pureed cauliflower and roasted vegetables; boeuf bourguignon, or roasted chicken with Marie's incredible jus reduction. For dessert, enjoy a selection of cheeses in addition to sweet crepes or seasonal fruit salad. Please note that you will enjoy your meal in their living and dining area on their ingenious dining table that converts from a coffee table.

Cooking experience: (1-4 guests) Learn how to make a traditional French classics with a professional chef in Marie and Florent's small, private kitchen. Marie will teach you how to make classical French dishes that are elegantly presented, like oven-roasted cod with assorted roasted vegetables and pureed cauliflower, or roasted chicken with Marie's secret recipe for rich "jus". After you have prepared 1-2 dishes, depending on their complexity (Marie may have prepared a few additional things requiring more time in advance), enjoy your meal together in Marie and Florent's living space that they convert to a dining area. You will be sure to leave full!

Market visit: (1-4 guests) (Only available on Saturdays) Join Florent for a walking tour that will include his favorite fromagerie, a cheese shop that specializes in products solely from the lesser-known Jura region of France. Pick up some cheeses to end your meal and take a leisurely 20-30 minute walk back to their apartment, stopping at the local market along the way to pick up fresh vegetables for your meal.

Notes: Please note that Marie only speaks French and a very small amount of English (she understands English but does not speak much!); her husband Florent speaks English and will be available to help translate during experiences.

Also please note that Marie and Florent prefer to host on the weekends, so they will be more likely to be available if you select a weekend date. Market tours are only available on Saturday.

Marie and Florent were both very friendly and welcomed us into their home. The food and wine were all delicious, and the evening was genuinely memorable. I highly recommend them.

Marie and Florent were excellent hosts, we had a good conversation. I was able to practice a little of my French (and they were very encouraging!) It was a bit of a drive to their apartment which is just outside Paris (plan on 25 mins via Uber). The ride was totally worth it!! Florent met me at the door and when we arrived at the apartment Marie had made some appetizers for us to enjoy. Marie is studying culinary and wants to own her own restaurant - I would be the first customer!! All in all it was a wonderful experience that travelers don't usually get - to really speak to local people about their lives, their work, the politics of their country (France had just concluded it's election when I was there) and most of all the food. Marie was great to let me help her in the kitchen - she is a natural! It was a heartfelt and amazing experience - thank you Marie and Florent! The Ratatouille was fun to make and enjoy!! So many great flavors in a health dish. I hope you will visit Marie and Florent - you won't regret it, in fact it will probably be the most memorable part of your Paris vacation.

To request a cancellation once you have made a booking simply log in and click the "Request Cancellation" link from the bottom of your booking. Your refund will be processed immediately (note it can take up to 10 business days for this refund to post to your credit card statement). Please note that for cancellations within 48 hours of your experience we unfortunately cannot offer a refund; this is because our hosts typically purchase food and begin their preparations up to 48 hours before the experience.

Most of our hosts are able to accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies, including vegetarian and gluten free options. For vegetarian travelers, we have an icon on each host profile to indicate whether that host can also offer a fully vegetarian menu. There is a section in the booking form to note any allergies or dietary restrictions which will be sent directly to your host.

Once you request a booking you can message your host directly to ask any specific questions. Your messages will be emailed directly to the host and any responses will be forwarded to your email and can also be seen on the Traveling Spoon website.

Your card will not be charged until your host accepts your booking. Typically hosts respond to bookings within 72 hours. In the event your host is unavailable on your selected date and your host rejects your booking your credit card will not be charged.

Your host's detailed contact information, including their phone number, address, and direction notes, will all be provided immediately upon successful confirmation of your experience (after your hosts accepts your booking and your credit card is successfully processed). This information will be emailed to you to the email address you used to sign up, and will also be visible on your Traveling Spoon profile.

All prices are noted as per person prices unless otherwise specified (typically transportation is charged on a per car basis, but otherwise all prices are per person).

Some hosts offer alcohol as an optional add-on for travelers who are of legal drinking age. Pricing for alcohol is visible on the host profile page and includes one to two glasses of wine, beer or local alcohol.

Some hosts offer transportation as an optional add-on for travelers. Typically this is round trip transportation with pick up and drop off at your hotel. Pricing is quoted per car. Specific instructions for transportation will be provided in your confirmation details when your booking is confirmed.

Many of our hosts accommodate solo travelers. You can see if a host accepts solo travelers by looking at the traveler range found next to the experience descriptions on the host profile (indicated by the numbers in parentheses next to "In-home meal", "Cooking experience" and "Market visit").

Your safety and security are our top priority. To ensure this, Traveling Spoon personally vets 100% of all hosts, including an in-person host visit, to ensure each host and experience meets our strict quality requirements.

Hosts typically respond to booking inquiries within 72 hours. If for some reason you have not heard from your host or if you have any questions you can always contact us at reservations@travelingspoon.com.
