Meet Carla

A native of Puerto Montt, the gateway to Chilean Patagonia, Carla is passionate about introducing her region to guests. Carla is a professional guide and has a deep knowledge of the area’s geography and history. During the winter months Carla works as a ski season in Northern Chile and in the summer she can be found hiking and exploring around Puerto Montt. Carla is friendly and easy to talk to and will be happy to help you plan your excursions around the town.

Carla lives in her family home with her parents, sister and young niece. Their family loves to cook and prepares typical Southern Chilean food at home.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-4 guests) Enjoy a simple family-style meal at Carla’s home. Her family eats typical Chilean dishes that are unpretentious and hearty. Your lunch might include a warming soup such as cazuela (a brothy soup with stewed chicken or beef, potatoes and vegetables like green beans, carrots, and corn), porotos granados (Chilean cranberry bean stew), longaniza (sausage), and Chilean salad made of tomatoes and onions, seasoned with olive oil and coriander. For dessert, Carla’s family often makes leche nevada (a creamy custard topped with poached meringues) or kuchen, a simple German-style cake made with seasonal fruit, which is common in Southern Chile. A wave of German immigrants in the 19th and early 20th centuries brought cake recipes to Chile and now every family in the south has their own version.

Traveler reviews

You'll find yourself in a very traditional neighborhood close to the city center. You will be greeted with a big smile from Carla, a young Chilean who works with tourists from all over the world and loves to share Chilean culture to others. She is very friendly and easy to talk to The home is very nice. She lives there with her parents, sister and niece. It is warm even when outside temperatures were low and it was raining. The setup is ideal for having a simple home-made warm meal.

Your host's detailed contact information, including their phone number, address, and direction notes, will all be provided immediately upon successful confirmation of your experience (after your hosts accepts your booking and your credit card is successfully processed). This information will be emailed to you to the email address you used to sign up, and will also be visible on your Traveling Spoon profile.

All prices are noted as per person prices unless otherwise specified (typically transportation is charged on a per car basis, but otherwise all prices are per person).

Some hosts offer alcohol as an optional add-on for travelers who are of legal drinking age. Pricing for alcohol is visible on the host profile page and includes one to two glasses of wine, beer or local alcohol.

Some hosts offer transportation as an optional add-on for travelers. Typically this is round trip transportation with pick up and drop off at your hotel. Pricing is quoted per car. Specific instructions for transportation will be provided in your confirmation details when your booking is confirmed.

Many of our hosts accommodate solo travelers. You can see if a host accepts solo travelers by looking at the traveler range found next to the experience descriptions on the host profile (indicated by the numbers in parentheses next to "In-home meal", "Cooking experience" and "Market visit").

Your safety and security are our top priority. To ensure this, Traveling Spoon personally vets 100% of all hosts, including an in-person host visit, to ensure each host and experience meets our strict quality requirements.
