Meet Camilo and Camila

Camilo and Camila are friends who met in culinary school and love cooking Colombian food together. They represent a new generation of Colombian cooks who are working to introduce their country’s cuisine to the world. Using traditional techniques and regional ingredients they put a modern twist on classic Colombian dishes. Their food is local, vibrant and visually appealing.

Camila and Camilo host at their restaurant, a small, cozy space that is brightly decorated. They have a separate cooking studio on the second floor where you will cook together.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-20 guests) Enjoy a meal with Camilo and Camila at their restaurant. Camilo shops daily at the local market to ensure that they use the freshest ingredients at the peak of ripeness. Your meal will start with a Colombian starter and then you’ll enjoy a main dish such as posta negra (tender stewed beef, Colombian-style), mote (typical sweet potato and cheese soup), fried costeño cheese, ensalada con aguacate (salad with avocado), and for dessert you’ll taste a traditional sweet like oblea, a sandwich cookie made of thin crispy wafers stuffed with arequipe, the Colombian version of dulce de leche.

Cooking experience: (2-20 guests) Step into Camilo and Camila’s professional kitchen at their restaurant. You will learn to cook 2 to 3 of their modern Colombian dishes, such as arepas (typical corn cakes), patacones (flattened and fried plantains) or hogao (a traditional Colombian sauce). During your hands-on cooking experience they will show you Colombian cooking techniques and teach you how to use the local ingredients. You will get to experience how a professional Colombian chef works in the kitchen, and how fun and tasty it can be!

Market visit: (2-20 guests) Las Cobadas is a huge market located in northern Bogotá that sells everything a Colombian family uses to cook on a daily basis including meat, fish, grains and other typical ingredients. Explore the market with Camilo and Camila and learn about the country’s incredible diversity of products. As you wander the market you will get to taste exotic fruits, drink a special Colombian coffee and sample local traditional food.

Notes: Occasionally either Camilo or Camila might be unavailable to host you. In that case one, of them will host you on their own.

Camilo and Camila can offer roundtrip transportation from the following neighborhoods in Bogota: Downtown, Chapinero and Zona T. If you would like them to pick you up please add transportation to you booking and be sure to tell them where you are staying.

Traveler reviews

Our experience was fantastic, we started at the market where we tried a bunch of fruits we hadn't seen before. From there we went to a couple shops and tried different cheeses. Afterwards we went to a coffee shop and tried some delicious coffee. Lastly we went back to the kitchen and helped prepare a dinner. They were super knowledge about the food we cooked and it was probably the best meal we have had in Colombia. ... Our experience was far better than we were expecting and I would highly recommend for any one to do a cooking lesson with Camilo and Camila

This information will be emailed to you to the email address you used to sign up, and will also be visible on your Traveling Spoon profile.

All prices are noted as per person prices unless otherwise specified (typically transportation is charged on a per car basis, but otherwise all prices are per person).
