Annette is a warm host with a deep appreciation for different cultures. She attributes her love of cooking to her mom and love of eating to her dad. A native Canadian, Annette is multilingual, has lived in several continents and has had professional stints in commercial banking and in the science field before discovering her true passion on a trip to Seville…Flamenco. From the moment Annette experienced flamenco, a form of song and dance special to the Andalusia region of Spain, she was hooked. Her newfound love fueled a series of trips to Seville to study flamenco and she ended up opening her own flamenco dance studio in Canada before finally moving to Seville permanently. Now a resident of Seville, Annette teaches study abroad business and flamenco courses, as well as cooking classes and continues to study Flamenco dance and song. She lives with her boyfriend Jose who hails from Soria, a gem on the eastern end of Castille and León region of Spain. Together the pair enjoys creating dishes inspired by Jose’s hometown in central Spain.

In-home meal: (2-10 guests) Meet your host Annette and her boyfriend Jose at their simple but welcoming home. Snack on olives in the newly renovated kitchen while discussing Annette’s globetrotting past and listening to Annette translate for Jose about life growing up in central Spain. Join your host on the rooftop or in the garden (weather permitting) or at their dining table for an authentic Spanish meal such as sopa castellana (Spanish garlic soup often made with egg poached in chicken broth and sherry), cordero a la pastora (lamb and potato stew) or paella de mariscos (seafood Paella) and end your meal with a dessert such as torija (a Spanish style French toast) or leche frita (a fried dough of flour, milk and sugar topped with cinnamon).
Cooking experience: (2-10 guests) Join your host Annette and Jose in their home kitchen for a traditional Spanish cooking class in Seville. In your Seville cooking class learn to cook a simple, traditional meal of the Castille or León region of Spain. Listen to Annette as she translates for Jose. Your hands-on cooking experience will last about two hours, during which you will learn to cook three simple but authentic Southern Spanish dishes using high-quality ingredients. Enjoy learning about Spanish food and culture before you sit down at the table to share the meal you helped prepare with host Annette and Jose.
Notes: Annette typically serves dishes of the Castille and León region of Spain, where her partner Jose is from, during the colder months, and lighter meals during summer. If you select optional alcohol at an additional cost, Annette will serve 1-2 glasses of local wine per person.

I have met several Traveling Spoon hosts now, and my conversation with Annette and Jose was among my best. Even though Jose and I did not speak the same language, Annette was incredibly attentive to translating – her skills as an English teacher in Sevilla are very apparent. It was fascinating to hear her and Jose’s perspectives on Sevilla and Spain overall. Jose was awesome, an opinionated and proud Spaniard. I learned so much and will always remember my incredible conversations and experience with these two!

Writing to thank Annette and Jose for a lively, cosmopolitan evening. Our delicious Andalusian soup was followed by Jose’s Castilian dorado which we had requested. Dessert was a Spanish bread dish accompanied by Annette’s Quebecois maple syrup! So fun. We had widely varied and enjoyable conversations and Annette’s perspective on flamenco was so helpful to our appreciation of this art. The first of many Travelingspoon experiences.- Kit and Neil March 03, 2024
We had originally planned to do a group cooking class, but decided to do this private one with Annette and Jose instead. We are so glad that we made this choice. Annette and Jose were so welcoming and friendly. Annette's english is excellent, and although Jose does not speak english, he was still part of the conversation with Annette as his translator. We made authentic Spanish dishes that were unique and very tasty. They had wine, cheese and bread to snack on while we made a cold soup, meat dish, from Jose's family recipe, and a sugary and scrumptious dessert. All the dishes were easy to make and Annette shared the recipes with us. I highly recommend cooking with Annette and Jose if you are in Seville.- lisasY8 April 21, 2023
We were greeted very warmly. Annette and Jose were charming, friendly and informative. ( We speak some Spanish, so we were able to communicate with Jose.) the menu was exactly as requested. So, good food, good wine, good conversation. A very enjoyable experience.- davidg March 05, 2023

Annette is a native Canadian and multilingual. Annette very much into flamenco and moved to Seville permanently. She lives with her boyfriend Jose who is from Soria, The 3 of us had so much fun, and learned a million things about cooking Spanish food. From the fact that they use very few spices to why gazpacho like soups are so popular in Spain (it’s hot during the summer months and they are very refreshing). To say this was a typical cooking class would be very misleading. Anette and Jose are wonderful hosts who truly encourage hands on cooking while they instruct (Annett speaks and Jose – not understanding or speaking English, points and gestures). They are both very easy to be around and want you to feel comfortable in their kitchen. Afterwards, we all enjoyed the meal we cooked with Anette and Jose, what could be better? We took away very good experiences and memories, plus now that we are home, we have cooked everything we learned from them in our own kitchen. This was an experience we will always remember- Michael June 16, 2022
Annette and Jose are such lovely people, we got on very well and immediately felt welcome in their home. The food we cooked was simple, good quality ingredients that were delicious, all 3 courses we will cook again at home. It was my partners birthday and they bought a bottle of Cava and candles, making the day even more special, such kind people. We could have spent all day with them. Next time we are in Seville we will get back in contact! Annette and Jose have a place to stay in our home if they are ever in London!- Thomas March 28, 2022
What a wonderful way to spend our first evening in Seville! Annette and Jose were gracious hosts and opened up their home to us and help us learn to cook a scrumptious traditional Spanish meal. The lamb was some of the best we ever had! Highly recommend if you want to be treated like friends and not tourists!- Robert_S January 20, 2022
Annette and Jose were excellent hosts, answering all our questions and showing us tips on how to cook traditional food, as well as making us feel comfortable in their home. I’ve taken lots of cooking classes before, but learning how to cook a home cooked meal and hearing about their experiences living in Spain in a casual setting, was unique and memorable. It’s an authentic experience that you don’t always get to have as a tourist. We are thankful for the experience and for making new friends in Spain!- bostonfoodie259 September 05, 2018
