Meet Silvia

Silvia’s love of traditional Emilia-Romagna cooking began in her grandmother’s kitchen, where she learned to make handmade pasta, piadina (the region’s traditional flatbread) and other local specialties. A professional tour guide for over two decades, Silvia also loves sharing the food, history and culture of Ravenna, the city where she grew up. She fondly remembers the simple, fresh and delicious meals shared at her grandparents’ home and hopes to recreate that same experience for her guests. Silvia and her boyfriend enjoy cooking together, experimenting with recipes and celebrating the flavors of their region. Beyond food, Silvia is passionate about art and especially Ravenna’s famous mosaic tradition, giving her a deep connection to the city’s culinary and cultural heritage. When asked why she wanted to host, Silvia said, “When I started traveling, I brought home recipes from different countries. I think food is one of the best memories we can preserve from a trip, and I want to give that to my guests.”

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-4 guests) Enjoy a private Italian meal in the heart of Ravenna’s city center at Silvia’s home. Silvia will welcome you with piadina, a traditional flatbread from Romagna, served with Italian cheese, honey and jam. Passionate about the cuisine of Emilia-Romagna, Silvia enjoys sharing traditional family recipes passed down from her grandmother. At Silvia’s table, enjoy a home-cooked Italian meal featuring regional and family favorites. Depending on the season, dishes might include strozzapreti panna e salsiccia (pasta with cream and sausage) or gnocchi di patate alla sorrentina (potato gnocchi with tomato sauce and mozzarella), accompanied by a fresh salad or seasonal roasted vegetables. End your meal with a classic Italian dessert such as tiramisu.

Cooking experience: (2-4 guests) During your hands-on cooking class in the heart of Ravenna’s city center, learn to make traditional Italian pasta in Silvia’s home. This private Ravenna cooking class lasts about two hours and includes making fresh pasta or gnocchi, a traditional sauce and dessert. Silvia can teach you to make a variety of handmade pasta, such as tagliatelle, tagliolini, strozzapreti or cappelletti, so please let her know if you have a preference. Silvia learned the art of pasta making from her grandmother and will share stories of growing up in Ravenna and cooking with her family as you work together in the kitchen. After your class, sit down with Silvia and her boyfriend to enjoy the homemade Italian meal you helped prepare.

Notes: Silvia can accommodate vegetarian and lactose-free diets on request. Please note that Silvia also runs a B&B from her home, so you may see other guests during your visit. However, your Traveling Spoon cooking class and meal will always be private and exclusively for your party. Your host has a cat in her home.

We had so much fun with Silvia in the hand-rolled pasta class! She made the experience so much fun, taught us a lot about the history of the dish, and helped us with our (poor) Italian. We will definitely take another class with her!
