Meet Naina

Naina (pronounced Nine-ah) is an experienced culinary entrepreneur and passionate cooking instructor who finds tremendous joy in helping others discover the flavors and traditions of Indian, Persian and Near Eastern cuisine. Her love of food, spices and cooking has led her on a mission to demystify the cuisines of India and the Near East, making their flavors and techniques approachable for home cooks. A warm, engaging and confidence-inspiring host, Chef Naina especially loves introducing guests to chaat (India's vibrant and flavorful street food), to a wide range of traditional and regional Indian dishes as well as drawing from her Persian heritage, offering many fragrant and beautiful dishes from Persia's ancient culinary traditions. She welcomes guests into her beautiful home and contemporary kitchen in Decatur, within the Atlanta perimeter, for hands-on Indian cooking classes that encourage you to cook using all your senses. For Naina, cooking is also a way to be present and connected. When she isn't cooking or spending time with her family, you'll often find her meditating. She brings this philosophy into her classes, encouraging guests to taste, smell and observe as they cook, while experiencing the joy and connection that come from preparing food together.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (2-6 guests) Join your host Naina for a private, hands-on Indian cooking class in Atlanta, hosted in her beautiful contemporary home and spacious kitchen in Decatur, just 20 minutes from Midtown Atlanta. Begin with a refreshing drink and snack as Naina introduces you to the ingredients, spices, flavors, and techniques that define Indian & Near Eastern cooking and her own personally inspired approach to seasonal cuisine in this part of the world. During your approximately two-hour cooking class, learn to prepare 3 dishes from scratch, with a seasonal menu that might include a vibrant chaat (a popular Indian street food known for its layers of sweet, spicy, tangy, and crunchy flavors), an Indian or Near Eastern inspired main dish, and a fragrant dessert. A confidence-inspiring cook, Naina will teach you to rely not only on recipes but also on your senses—tasting, smelling, and observing your food as you cook. You'll leave with practical techniques and a deeper understanding of how to balance Indian spices and flavors in your own kitchen. At the end of your Atlanta Indian cooking class, the dishes you prepare will be carefully packed for you to take home and enjoy. Please note that this experience does not include a sit-down meal at your host's home. Naina is happy to accommodate a variety of dietary requests with advance notice. Please include any dietary restrictions or allergies when booking.

Notes: Unlike most Traveling Spoon experiences, this cooking class does not include a sit-down meal in the host’s home. After the class, the dishes you prepare will be carefully packed for you to take home and enjoy.

If you’re looking for a delicious, delightful and educational experience you must book time with Chef Naina. I went with four friends and all thoroughly enjoyed it! We toured every isle in an Indian supermarket and she took her time talking about culinary and cultural traditions, history as well. She is very knowledgeable. We went back to her home and experienced an interactive cooking class which we then gathered around the table with Chef Naina and her sous chef, Melanie, to enjoy the delicious meal we had prepared. Highly recommend this experience!! Chef Naina is personable, knowledgeable and fun.

Our experience with Chef Naina was absolutely incredible! From the moment we arrived, she welcomed us in such a warm, affectionate, and cozy way that we instantly felt at home. She is really professional, not only is her culinary skill and flavor profile truly spectacular, but she was also so patient in explaining every single ingredient and detail of the dishes to us. Beyond the incredible food, we shared wonderful conversations throughout a truly delicious dinner. Chef Naina made this evening unforgettable and turned it into a truly memorable experience.

Some coworkers and I booked this experience for a team building event and it did not disappoint! We started our time with Chef Naina on a market tour of Dekalb Famers Market and then had a fantastic in home cooking class making Persian cuisine. Chef Naina is so knowledgeable about different types of foods and flavors. She educated us on the unique properties of every fresh ingredient we used, especially saffron 😊 Everyone on our team received a personalized packet with the recipes we prepared and a special gift from the Chef at the end our experience. This is a perfect experience for a small team building experience or a date night. I will definitely do this again!
