Sofia has a lifelong passion for cooking, entertaining, and bringing people together through food. Her family ran a restaurant for 15 years, where she gained extensive experience welcoming international travelers and sharing local cuisine. Alongside the family restaurant, Sofia began hosting culinary experiences in her own home, combining her love of cooking with her joy of meeting people from around the world. For Sofia, being a Traveling Spoon host brings together the best of both worlds: teaching guests to prepare traditional dishes, sharing stories and laughter, and enjoying a delicious homemade meal together. She looks forward to welcoming you into her home and sharing the culinary traditions she loves.

We had an amazing evening with our Traveling Spoon host, Sofia! Her family was a treat to spend time with. It was like an evening with old friends. We laughed, chatted, and learned so much from her and her adult children. We made several dishes that we had not made before and are eager to try at home. They did a really nice job of selecting recipes that were accessible for a home cook. And, the special gifts to take home with us was an especially nice surprise. Thank you, Sophia, and her family for a wonderful evening. I recommend this experience to anyone looking to learn about traditional Portuguese food, enjoy a fabulous meal, and meet some truly extraordinary people! I have a feeling that this is definitely going to be one of the highlights of our trip to Portugal. Definitely something that we won't forget.- Angelique A March 16, 2025
Incredible cooking class-- a trip highlight! Sofia's cooking class was a highlight of our 2-week trip to Portugal! She not only introduced us to delicious dishes from across the country, but taught us about the history and culture related to the food. Her family was welcoming and kind, and she developed a menu to fit our family's culinary likes/dislikes (even our pickiest eater loved everything!). She also gave great recommendations for other things to see/do/eat in Evora. I couldn't recommend this class enough!- Jessica L July 17, 2023
Great kitchen, great cooking, fun conversation! This was our fourth Traveling Spoon, and every one has been exceptional - Sofia Viera was everything you would want in a Traveling Spoon person. Their kitchen is amazing. Almost worth the experience alone! Sofia guided Carol and I (mostly Carol) through the making of many different Portuguese tapas, as well as a fabulous main dish. We can't wait for Carol to make these again! Sofia and Joaquim were very interesting to talk to during dinner, with history, politics, food, and wine among the topics.- Glen B November 30, 2021
