Meet Annette & Aurora

Annette and her mother Aurora host an authentic Cuban cooking class in their home in Little Havana, Miami. Annette, a Miami native, has worked in the travel industry for more than 20 years as a guide, tour director, and travel advisor, leading groups across Europe and around the world. After years of designing international itineraries through her travel agency, Annette began offering a Cuban cooking experience in Miami during the pandemic, creating a way for travelers to connect with culture through food when international travel paused. Aurora moved from Cuba to Miami at age nine and grew up in Little Havana, where she learned traditional Cuban cooking from family members and the local community. Together, Annette and Aurora share family recipes, stories of Cuban heritage, and the flavors of home cooking in a welcoming environment. When Annette is not available, Aurora hosts alongside a close family friend who shares the same passion for Cuban cuisine and hospitality.

Cooking experience: (6-12 guests) Step into Annette and Aurora’s welcoming Little Havana home for a private and authentic Cuban cooking class in Miami that blends food, culture, and storytelling. Begin with tropical sangria and Cuban finger foods while learning about Aurora’s childhood in Cuba and the cultural roots of Cuban cuisine, influenced by Spanish, African, and Caribbean traditions. During this hands-on experience, prepare classic dishes like crispy tostones and ropa vieja, along with refreshing mojitos (unlimited!) made from scratch. Then sit down together to enjoy a family-style Cuban meal featuring yuca, salad, Cuban bread, slow-cooked beans, and dessert, followed by Cuban coffee. To reflect traditional home cooking, certain elements of the meal like the beans and dessert are traditionally prepared in advance using time-honored techniques. You’ll leave with recipes, a small gift, and a deeper understanding of Cuban culture and culinary traditions in Little Havana. Ideal for families, corporate team-building events, or bachelorette parties, this Little Havana cooking class offers a memorable way to connect with Miami’s Cuban culture and cuisine.Your host is happy to accommodate vegetarian, lactose-free, gluten-free, and kosher dietary needs. Vegan menus are more limited, so unfortunately this experience may not be suitable for vegan guests.
