Meet Erica

Erica is one of Ireland's great TV chefs, is the main stage host of Taste of Dublin and travels the country hosting cookery demos at festivals. Erica is a warm and fun host who has been cooking since she could speak. She credits her love for cooking to her mother who was the fundamental cooking influence in her life. Erica got her degree in hospitality management, was a chef (in Whistler, Canada!) for many years, owned a food truck and is now a general manager at a restaurant. Having grown up in Howth, a fishing village near Dublin, Erica loves cooking and showcasing regional seafood. Cooking and eating are Erica’s passions because cooking for others and bringing them joy through food makes her deeply happy. Erica is also passionate about encouraging and teaching people to cook dishes from scratch.

In-home meal: (4-8 guests) Meet your host Erica, a fun and lively host at her Victorian red brick house in a leafy suburb on the south of the city, a 10-minute walk from some of Dublin’s top landmarks such as St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the Guinness storehouse and the Teeling's Whiskey Distillery. Her house hosts a spacious living room and open kitchen with high ceilings and many original features. Erica will welcome you with a canape and a drink in the living room before you join her at the dining table or at a table on her patio (weather permitting) to enjoy a gourmet, traditional, homemade Irish meal. You will enjoy a 3-course meal of a starter, main course and dessert. Your menu may include dishes such as a starter of crispy potato boxty (potato pancake) with local smoked salmon or seafood chowder with Guinness brown bread and a main of a traditional Dublin coddle (sausage stew) or pan-fried hake with cockles and mussels and a side of seasonal vegetables like tender stem broccoli with parsley butter. Your meal will conclude with a dessert of warm apple crumble with cream or Wexford strawberry cheesecake. On days that he is available, Erica’s boyfriend will join you at the table.

Cooking experience: (4-8 guests) Join your host Erica at her high-ceilinged kitchen to learn to cook a traditional Irish meal from recipes that she learned from her mother. Your hands-on cooking class will last about two and a half hours. You will learn to cook three dishes three dishes from scratch. Dishes you might learn to make are Guinness brown bread, a main like a stew or fish, and a dessert. Enjoy learning about the techniques involved in cooking Irish food from a professional chef before you sit down at the table to share the meal you helped prepare with host Erica.

Notes: If you’re interested in a Mediterranean or Middle-Eastern take on local ingredients, Erica is happy to offer a more international menu. Please inform her when making your booking if you’re interested in a more creative, international menu. Erica is also happy to accommodate vegetarian and vegan requests.

PERSONALLY VETTED REVIEW
A Traveling Spoon ambassador visited this host. Here is their personal review.

Erica is a great cook who has been cooking since her hotel and restaurant days. She lives in an old red-brick semi-detached house in an old part of Dublin. The walls and fittings need painting / care by the landlord but this didn’t detract from the joy of the occasion. The food and experience were wonderful. The cooking seems effortless although it certainly isn’t and her enthusiasm is infectious. Highly recommended!

Thank you Erica and Dave. We had an amazing night and an even better dinner with Erica and Dave. We felt very welcomed and they were both extremely nice. We had great conversation over dinner and wine. I doubt I will find a better meal during my stay in Dublin. It was a great way to start our trip!
