Linh (pronounced Ling) learned to cook traditional Vietnamese recipes from her mother and grandmother. She also went to culinary school in Danang where she learned about Vietnamese cooking techniques. She has been running two restaurants and offering cooking classes since 2012. Linh is truly a culinary expert and will share with you the secret of making mouth-watering Vietnamese delicacies. In your online class learn to make banh xeo (crispy Vietnamese rice flour pancakes), a dipping sauce and cao lau (a regional Vietnamese noodle dish, from the city of Hoi An).

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 tsp turmeric power
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup green spring onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 lb. pork (or mushrooms), sliced
  • ½ lb. small shrimp, peeled
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 shallots, minced
  • 2 cup fresh bean sprouts
  • Mint and cilantro, for serving
  • Oil (for cooking)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp fish sauce
  • 6 tbsp warm water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 birds eye chili, chopped finely
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped finely
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 2 pounds Vietnamese style rice noodles
  • 1 1/2-pound pork tenderloin, cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup rice chips or crispy fried noodles
  • 2 cups bean sprouts
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 4 shallots, minced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lemongrass, chopped
  • 1 tsp paprika or chili paste
  • 1 tablespoons oil
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 cup basil or mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup cilantro leaves

"I cook a lot, but the salad was completely new to me, and I've never actually made sticky rice before, so that was fascinating. Both were delicious. Instructions were easy to follow, and Lin was very good about going first, showing how it was supposed to look (excellent use of multiple cameras), and checking in on how my dishes were going. I will definitely be making these dishes again. Also some interesting insight into the local Lanna culture. Highly recommended!"
