Marina discovered her passion for cooking at the age of 10. After graduating from college, she realized that food was what truly inspired her and decided to become a professional chef. She trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and spent five years honing her skills in Michelin-starred restaurants. Marina also writes a popular food column, where she shares her favorite recipes and culinary techniques. Marina loves introducing travelers to Greek cuisine and sharing her knowledge through hands-on cooking experiences. She recently welcomed a baby, so when she is unavailable, your experience may be led by an equally qualified chef from her team. Depending on availability, you may be joined by her partner, a fellow chef and former Top Chef contestant. No matter who hosts, guests can look forward to an engaging experience centered on Greek food and culinary traditions.

Cooking experience: (1-5 guests) Join your host in her welcoming Athens home for a three-hour, hands-on Greek cooking class. Learn to prepare 2–3 authentic Greek dishes inspired by cherished family recipes and reimagined with Marina’s creative, modern approach. Your host will guide you through traditional cooking techniques, introduce you to local ingredients, and share the stories behind each dish. Depending on the season, your menu may include hilopites, traditional Greek egg pasta served with mizithra cheese, or slow-cooked lamb or beef in a rich tomato sauce accompanied by trahana, a fermented grain used in Greek cuisine. You’ll also prepare a fresh seasonal salad with locally sourced ingredients. After your private Athens cooking class, sit down together to enjoy the Greek meal you helped create, accompanied by a glass of local wine. Finish with yogurt panna cotta infused with chamomile and honey - a light, contemporary interpretation of classic Greek flavors. This intimate culinary experience is ideal for travelers who want to learn authentic Greek recipes and experience local food culture in an Athens home.
Market visit: (2-5 guests) Meet your host at the ATM near Varvakios Food Market and begin a guided Athens food market tour through a nearby farmers’ market filled with fresh, seasonal produce. During this approximately 40-minute market visit, you’ll meet trusted local vendors, sample select ingredients, and learn how Athenians shop for high-quality Greek produce. Your host will explain what is in season, share tips for choosing the best local ingredients, and select fresh items for your hands-on Greek cooking class. This market tour offers an authentic introduction to Athens’ food culture and the seasonal ingredients used in traditional Greek cuisine.
Notes: Marina can accommodate lactose-free, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan diets upon request. Please share your dietary preferences when booking your Athens cooking class online. The market tour, cooking class, and meal experience is available only in the mornings, Monday through Saturday. Yiota was our guide and she was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable about the food, Greek history, Art, local politics, etc. She was very easy to speak with. We went to 4 different locations that we never would have found on our own. The food was varied, delicious, and culturally interesting. We even went back to one place the next day. This tour with Yiota was the highlight of our visit in Athens. My wife and I highly recommend this tour.- Thomas July 08, 2025
