Meet Fouzia and Mohamed

Fouzia is a professional cook, she learned to cook traditional Moroccan dishes at a local culinary school. Currently she is working as a caterer for a women's cooperative. Mohamed is a professional, licensed guide and leads many tours around the city. They have two children, and live in a simple home in a suburb of Casablanca. Fouzia and Mohamed are the perfect pair as Fouzia loves cooking traditional dishes and Mohamed loves hosting. Together they offer cooking classes for traveler’s in their home.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-5 guests) Fouzia loves cooking a variety of Moroccan dishes, however her favorite is the famous Tagine – it consists of meat, vegetables, and spices that are cooked together very slowly. Fouzia and Mohamed are excited to welcome you to their home for a culinary and cultural experience; where you will have the opportunity to enjoy home cooked Moroccan dishes, learn about the local culture and discover the warmth and hospitality of a Moroccan family. A few dishes that you might try at their home are Moroccan salad, chicken tagine, lamb tagine, seasonal fresh fruits, Moroccan mint tea and end your meal with a local pastry.

Cooking experience: (1-5 guests) In your traditional Moroccan cooking class in Casablanca, join Fouzia in her home kitchen to learn to cook a Moroccan meal. As her kitchen is small your class will be a mix of a demonstration and a hands-on experience. In 1.5 hours you will learn to make chicken and lamb tagine. All the prep work will be done in the living room, where you will help chop the vegetables and herbs. Then you will move to the kitchen for the final cooking, where you will watch as Fouzia cooks your home cooked, traditional Moroccan meal. As Fouzia is not fluent in English, Mohamed will be present to help translate.

Market visit: (1-5 guests) Meet your host at their home, and then you will walk together to their local market in Lissasfa. This is a guided market tour, with your licensed host and guide, Mohamed. At this traditional market you will see a lot of vendors selling fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, chicken, exotic spices and other appetizing local products. This is an excellent opportunity to interact with the local community, while understanding their food, lifestyle and culture. After you buy a few ingredients at the market, walk back to their home for your Moroccan cooking class, and learn to make tagine before you sit down with the family to share a traditional Moroccan home-cooked meal!

Notes: Mohamed speaks English, Spanish, Arabic and French and Fouzia speaks French and Arabic. They can accommodate lactose free, gluten free, vegetarian and vegan diets, please inform them in advance if you have any dietary restrictions, while booking Casablanca cooking class online.

Languages spoken: English, French, Spanish, Arabic
