Unlike a typical Traveling Spoon experience that takes place in a home, this is a unique experience that takes place on an organic community farm and kitchen run by a group of locals interested in sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. After years working in the hospitality industry, Kadek returned to his village in Pejeng, Bali to start his own business with a focus on sustainable farming practices that are kind to the environment. A passionate host, who combines his love for farming, cooking, and healthy food into a fun and immersive cooking class in Ubud on his organic farm. Alongside local community members, Kadek runs an organic farm that promotes waste reduction and sustainable agriculture. He learned traditional Balinese recipes and cooking methods from his mother and his brother-in-law, a chef at a 5-star hotel. Kadek’s family and community members often join the experience, offering guests an authentic glimpse into village life. His mission is to share the benefits of organic farming and the rich culinary traditions of Bali with visitors from around the world.

Join Kadek for a guided tour of his organic farm in Ubud, where you’ll gather fresh ingredients for your Balinese cooking class. Explore the farm, learn about local farming practices, and collect produce like beans and lemongrass. The fun, interactive tour lasts 30-45 minutes, with straw hats provided to keep you cool. Afterward, enjoy a refreshing drink and wet towels before starting your hands-on Balinese cooking experience.
Your cooking class in Ubud takes place in a traditional Balinese style outdoor community kitchen. After sipping on a cold beverage, and donning an apron, start by helping Kadek prepare and cook an authentic Balinese meal. During your two-hour Ubud cooking class, you will learn to make 2-3 authentic dishes. Enjoy a meal of the dishes you prepared along with a couple of dishes that Kadek will have prepared in advance. Kadek will also give you a cookbook with recipes of the dishes you cooked so that you can re-create them back home!
After cooking enjoy the meal you helped prepare in a rustic, traditional, outdoor area. Some of the dishes you might try are nasi sela (rice with sweet potato), garang asem (chicken cooked with Balinese spices), tuna satay (traditional Balinese fish kebabs) and sayur urab (green vegetables with coconut and spices). You will end your meal with kolak (banana dessert) and Balinese coffee or lemongrass tea. Please note that Kadek will not join you for the meal, as he first needs to offer the meal to mother nature and prefers that you don’t wait for him to finish the ritual to start your meal.

This was a fun and interesting experience. We had a lovely traditional Balinese welcome drink; the food was very fresh and the tuna satay with sambal and green bean salad were our favorite dishes. We ended up having a lovely time and a great day. We walked around the farm to pick up ingredients, cooked a meal, ate and engaged in some cultural discussion. You will walk away learning a lot!

This was such an amazing experience and would encourage everyone who goes to Bali to do it. The family was so warm and welcoming, we had so much fun learning about the ingredients that go into the meals and the preparation of the food. We had lots of different conversations and many laughters. The star of the show was of course the part where we shared the meals. I really loved this, and grateful for Kadek and his wife for hosting us 😊- Venessa September 28, 2025
The cooking course with Kadek was the best experience I had in Bali. Kadek and his staff make you feel like family, you learn about cooking, traditions and above all you have fun from the first moment. I recommend it to anyone who comes to ubud. I would also like to specify that it is definitely not one of those tourist experiences, but a sincere and characteristic one.- Guilaiya September 03, 2025
I really appreciated the ethos behind this project. The young guys brought a lot of fun to the experience but they also knew how to cook 😁- Paddy August 24, 2025
This is a very interesting 'hands on' experience, in a beautiful farm setting, the instructors were engaging. All up a fabulous day.- Nareen May 11, 2025
Best experience in Bali! This is NOT a ‘tourist’ trap. This is the real deal. We learned (and then ate) a 4 course meal made with fruit, herbs and veggies from the garden, fresh chicken (from their chickens) - and let’s not forget the best green beans of my life, and (of course) rice from their farm. Everything was cooked in home made coconut oil made by their neighbor (ummm yes I’m bringing a few bottles home with me). That was just the tip of the iceberg! We were given a tour of the family compound and had all the temples and lifestyle explained to us. A tour of the garden - and then were given a treat of a traditional Balinese dance from her niece and experienced her ‘hobby’ which is weaving with the hand died yarns from her garden (yes I bought one of these exquisite pieces to hang in my house). I experienced Soooooo much love and warmth and generosity. This is the best thing I have done in Bali so far! Do this first so you can then approach the culture with a foundatiinal understanding as you move forward with your days. Oh, and they have a super cute brand new guest house with an infinity pool overlooking the rice gardens. I’ll definitely stay here in the future.- elizabeth June 22, 2024
