Nancy has been cooking for as long as she can remember. She loves cooking for friends and entertaining and is excited to share her cuisine and culture with guests from around the world.She has a great love for travel and looks forward to providing guests with an evening of food, laughter and, hopefully, new friendship, not to mention delicious pizza and a twist on a classic American dessert. Nancy has tried a large variety of pizzas in Chicago and know what makes for a good pie - she is eager to share her knowledge of Chicago's famous deep dish pizza and prepare it with you!

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp white sugar
  • 1 1/8 cups warm water (110 degrees F)
  • 1/2 cup corn oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can (14 oz) tomatoes, whole (preferably Marzano)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried parsley (can substitute 3 herbs with Italian herb seasoning mix)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella, shredded
  • Fresh basil (optional)
  • 6 tbsp butter - softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • Choose 3 from the below topping suggestions:
  • 1/2 lb Italian sausage, cooked with 1/2 tsp fennel seeds and crumbled
  • 1 pack frozen spinach, thawed, drained and squeezed
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 10-12 slices pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup black or green olives
  • 1/2 cup zucchini, red or green peppers, chopped

"Great virtual experience. I have taken a live deep dish pizza class in Chicago before in the past and was excited about making pizza at home but never got around to it. Figured I would take a class again as I was curious about the cooking difference in the oven at home. I really enjoyed the class, the pizza and brownies came out great. So happy I took this class and will now be making my own pizzas at home."

Sitting and talking in someone's kitchen is so intimate and personal, so taking Nancy's virtual Traveling Spoon class was a great way to catch up and connect and feel like we are all in the same place for a few hours. Nancy is engaging and helpful and the recipes were delicious! Highly recommend!"
