Meet Josefina

Josefina, a special advisor of foreign affairs by day, has been cooking since the age of 12. Josefina’s interest in food was first sparked by her father, the cook of their family who had an early interest in gourmet food and cooking. While other children were picked up and served spaghetti for lunch, her father would pick her up from school and serve perfectly prepared chicken with an orange reduction sauce. “He trained my tastes”, she says. While studying global studies abroad, Josefina had the opportunity to cook for an international crew of friends, and also was welcomed into their homes and kitchens around the world. “I have been received in homes from around the world, and want to return that experience to other travelers.” Josefina’s boyfriend Ignacio, an advertising professional who was born and raised in Buenos Aires, similarly loves hosting others. Together they invite travelers to share a gourmet, modern meal in their Buenos Aires home.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-8 guests) Meet your hosts Josefina and Ignacio at their late 19th century apartment located in the Montserrat neighborhood of Buenos Aires, with lovely views of the city’s central boulevard leading to the obelisco. Start your experience at their welcoming apartment with a welcome drink of wine or a cocktail and a small appetizer such as a Josefina’s homemade pickled eggplant dip. Nacio will be your host in the living room as Josefina puts the finishing touches on your meal, as you share stories of your travels and Josefina and Ignacio’s growing up in Buenos Aires. Then sit down together at their communal dining table to enjoy a modern, 4-course gourmet meal, which will feature a starter such as beetroot carpaccio with blue cheese and a balsamic reduction, followed by a first course such as panko-fried shrimp on a couscous tower, topped with an herb sauce. For your main course, enjoy fresh Argentinian beef tenderloin, served with a mandarin and ginger sauce alongside creamy potatoes. End your meal with a sweet dessert of dark chocolate mousse with caramelized fruits, and a selection of coffee or tea. Bread and filtered water will also be available.

Cooking experience: (2-4 guests) Join your hosts Josefina and Ignacio in their central Buenos Aires apartment for a modern, gourmet cooking class. After a welcome drink and appetizer, Josefina will lead your class in their kitchen where you will learn to prepare three seasonal, gourmet Argentinian dishes from scratch.

Market visit: (2-4 guests) Meet your host at their home and have a welcome drink before walking to the San Telmo market, about 8 blocks away. Josefina will walk you around the covered market, which has been running since 1896. The covered market sells everything from meat and fish to fruits and vegetables. Enjoy samples from some of Josefina's favorite vendors (such as their favorite new “parrilla” barbecue food stand), and pick up some of the ingredients you will use in your cooking class. Then head home to enjoy your cooking lesson and meal. Your market tour will last about 60-90 minutes.

Notes: Please note that alcohol is included in the cost of your experience. Also please note that Josefina and Ignacio work during the week, so lunch experiences are only available on weekends.
